Santini Miri wins Glass Tulip public award
Santini Miri from breeder Dümmen Orange, grown by the leading family business LS Santini, won the Glass Tulip (‘Glazen Tulp’) public award at the Royal FloraHolland Trade Fair this year.
The Glass Tulip Award ceremony takes place every year at the Royal FloraHolland Trade Fair in Aalsmeer (the Netherlands). This Oscar-worthy award goes to the best market introduction in the category of cut flowers, concepts, houseplants and garden plants. The Miri not only won the public award; an expert jury awarded the Miri third place in the cut flower category.
‘Innovation plays an essential role in the floriculture sector,’ says Lisanne Fabriek, Trade & Marketing Manager EMEA of Dümmen Orange. 'This Glass Tulip public award indicates that our innovative strength is recognized by the market.’
Santini Miri has proven itself as a promising product in the niche segment of well-performing varieties with a unique flower shape and color combination. Lisanne Fabriek: 'The difficulty initially lay in finding the right possibilities and convincing the grower. When LS Santini decided to start the test process with us, it quickly became clear that we had found the right grower for this product.'
Juliska Hofman, owner of LS Santini, speaks confidently about Miri's qualities and distinctiveness. ‘When registrations for the Glass Tulip opened, there was no doubt,’ she says. 'We submitted Miri because of its proven qualities and distinctiveness in a product market combination that did not exist before. We are very proud of this result.'
