As a Breeding Assistant you play a key role in the execution of breeding plans, support data collection, and contribute to the development of new, high-performing varieties. Your work directly supports the breeding team for the mums in De Lier and helps us deliver innovative, good quality varieties to our customers and partners worldwide.

Being part of the cut flower breeding team, you play an important role in the process to replace the current varieties in the market for improved sustainable products. Your expertise and skills will help Dümmen Orange stay ahead in a competitive global market, while also reinforcing our commitment to excellence, sustainability, and innovation. 

Your tasks and/or responsibilities include:

• Support the execution of breeding operational plans for cut chrysanthemums;
• Maintain and update selection data using breeding software tools;
• Conduct greenhouse phenotyping, vase life tests using established protocols;
• Prepare trial orders, materials, including lists and labels, in alignment with breeder instructions;
• Assist breeders in evaluations, reporting, and experiments.

You are a hands-on and accurate professional who enjoys working together with colleagues in a lively, practical environment. You enjoy routine work as much as taking up new ways of working. With your eye for detail and team spirit, you help ensure that every step in the breeding process runs smoothly — contributing directly to beautiful results that make a difference.

Furthermore you: 

• have a Bachelor’s degree/HBO in Plant Sciences/Life Sciences/ Biology related fields. Having experience in a comparable role would be appreciated but not necessary; 
• are fluent in English (both written and verbal); Dutch is an advantage; 
• enjoy a mix of greenhouse and desk-based work;
• are motivated to learn all aspects of Cut Chrysanthemum breeding at Dümmen Orange.
