Top Young Breeder Recognition: Emily Verdeyen
Driving innovation in rose breeding
We’re proud to share that our colleague Emily Verdeyen, rose breeder within the Dümmen Orange R&D team, has been named one of the 20 Most Promising Young Plant Breeders in Europe by Seed World Europe.
Emily stands out for her creative approach, strong dedication, and close collaboration across teams. In a crop known for long breeding cycles, she actively contributes to accelerating innovation and progress.
Looking ahead, Emily believes the future of ornamental breeding lies in predictive and genomic approaches. By identifying promising parent lines earlier in the process and combining this with thorough field evaluation, she works towards developing resilient, sustainable rose varieties requiring fewer inputs while performing under a wide range of conditions.
A great example of how innovation in breeding helps meet the evolving needs of both growers and consumers.
